Dr. Marcus D. Floyd

Dr. Marcus D. Floyd was born to Mr. Reginald Floyd, Sr. and Mrs. Alma Floyd. He was raised in Bartow,  Florida and received Christ at the age of nine. Pastor Floyd has been a licensed minister of the Gospel  since 2003. He was ordained  an Elder of Burkett Chapple Primitive Baptist Church on May 27, 2007.  Pastor Floyd was examined and ordained as an  Elder of the Primitive Baptist Church at the Mid-Term  association  meeting of the East Florida District Primitive Association on February 15, 2014.

Dr. Floyd was called and elected unanimously by the members of Burkett Chapple Primitive Baptist Church to serve as  pastor on January 13, 2014. He was officially installed during a special installation service on April 6, 2014.  Moderator  Charles L. Hendley of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Association officiated and delivered the installation sermon.   In the past, Elder Floyd also served as the Interim Pastor of Burkett Chapple Primitive Baptist Church from April 2013 until January 2014. Prior to that Dr. Floyd served as the Assistant Pastor starting in 2011, after being elected to that position by the church. Preceding that assignment, Pastor Floyd served faithfully as the Youth Pastor beginning in 2005. 

In June of 2015, during the 145th annual session of the East Florida District Church School Convention Dr.  Floyd was elected to serve as the convention’s Bible Expositor. In 2016, Dr. Floyd was elected to the position of President of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Church School Convention.  Dr. Floyd also serves as the adult facilitator for union 5 of the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Association. 

Dr. Floyd’s leadership at Burkett Chapple has led to the growth of the church spiritually, numerically, and financially. Dr. Floyd has implemented new ministries that reach people of all ages. Under his leadership, the Go Ministry for community outreach, the Marriage Ministry for those who are married or engaged, the Seniors Ministry for those 65 or older, the Sewing Ministry which makes dresses for children in Africa, the Diamond 2 Diamond Women’s Ministry led by First Lady Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd, and an accountability system have been implemented. The church building has been painted and a new roof has been installed under his leadership. Dr. Floyd serves faithfully in and outside the walls of Burkett Chapple Primitive Baptist Church. 

Dr.  Floyd is technologically gifted and works diligently to ensure that Burkett Chapple Primitive Baptist Church has a social media presence. He created the church’s website and maintains it with constant updates. The church also has an online payment component on our website that was created by Dr. Floyd to allow donations to be made locally as well as world-wide. Also, prayer requests can 

be submitted to Pastor Floyd through our website. He also created and maintains Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages for Burkett Chapple. Dr. Floyd named the weekly announcements section of our service, the “BCPBC News” and uploads the dynamic broadcasts to our social media sites weekly.  He also has secured an on-line church component for Burkett Chapple Primitive Baptist Church to ensure that individuals throughout the world have access to our Christ-centered and spiritually uplifting church services. Dr. Floyd also hosts a television show titled, The Empowered Life with Dr. Marcus D. Floyd which airs weekly on the Christian Television Network to a national audience. 

Dr. Floyd is a loving pastor who has been gifted by God to be able to preach and teach in a way that touches the lives of individuals of multiple generations. He leads with a servant’s heart and creates a loving, family type atmosphere for all. Dr. Floyd encourages each member to reach their fullest potential in Christ. 

Dr. Marcus D. Floyd is a 1997 graduate of Bartow Senior High School where he earned all-state recognition as a senior. He rushed for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns despite missing five games due to injury and helped lead his team to the 1996 Florida 4A state championship. Dr. Floyd was then blessed with a full athletic scholarship to attend Indiana University where he excelled in both academics and athletics.

After a fruitful career at IU, he was blessed to be signed by the New York Jets and made the team as an undrafted free agent.  Dr. Floyd had a four-year career in the NFL. He also played for the Buffalo Bills and the Carolina Panthers. In 2011 Pastor Floyd was inducted into the Bartow Youth Football Hall of Fame. Dr. Floyd also had his number 24 jersey retired by Bartow Senior High School in October of 2013.  Dr. Floyd and his wife of more than twenty years, First Lady Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd have one daughter Milania.

Education

Dr. Floyd graduated in 2001 from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications.  He later earned a Master of Arts Degree in Christian Leadership from Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary in 2008 as well as a Master of Divinity degree in 2011 from the same institution.  Dr. Floyd graduated from Liberty University’s School of Divinity in 2020 after earning a Doctor of Ministry Degree.
